Volvo S60 Polestar and Volvo V40 Polestar, sportsmanship takes over the Swedish firm

In the crowded market for premium brands, recent years have been characterized because virtually all firms have sports variants of its most successful models, a path already marked German brands for many years. BMW, Audi and Mercedes have their respective sports variants, and in recent years have seen the emergence of variants F Lexus, Infiniti IPL future or Jaguar R models. This list misses Volvo, a classic premium brands.

However, in recent times have seen an attempt to Volvo to offer its own range by Polestar sports, such as the Volvo C30 Polestar Performance unveiled two years ago as a prototype. Volvo’s true intentions were shown last week with the Volvo S60 Polestar, a beautiful 508-hp engine that combines all the elegance of the S60 standard with fantastic sports highlights Polestar. It was presented as a prototype, but the unit was sold and no serious plans to launch production.

In no time the Swedish company has spoken about it, but there are several sources that say the car has received the green light for production. The British magazine Autocar has been in contact with one of the big guns of the British division of Volvo, and he or she has confirmed that the company is seriously looking at launching the model. Given the good reception given (despite the high price of the first prototype), we can guess that the chances of that are manufactured in series are very high.

To become reality, the specifications would be virtually the same as those of the prototype, ie a 3-liter turbocharged engine that delivers 508 hp, AWD, a sports chassis and performance to remove his hat (from 0 to 100 in less than 4 seconds and a top speed of 300 km / h). Its price would be around 120,000 euros, a figure higher than that of rivals like the Mercedes C 63 AMG and Lexus IS-F, but probably even more exclusive Volvo.

As this model is too radical, the brand is also considering launching another model Polestar more rational in every way. He has recently begun to speak of the possibility of a hypothetical Polestar Volvo V40, the sportiest version of the newcomer Volvo V40, which would compete with the future Audi S3 or BMW M135i. With a sportier aesthetic than conventional variants, under the hood we find a 2.5 turbo engine five-cylinder version that incorporates the T5 but boosted to about 280 hp, and probably linked to AWD.

Although no official details about it, Volvo is expected to present this production version of the Volvo V40 Polestar in the Paris Motor Show next September, that is, in just two months, and would be released several months later a price of 40,000 euros. Polestar for the Volvo S60 would still have to wait a few months, but over 2013 are expected to already submitted the final version. If both models finally come to the street, Volvo placed a stroke two premium sports cars that rival face to face with entrenched German rivals.
