The Ford C-MAX Hybrid to Hunt Prius Plus, so far in U.S.

Ford has proposed the “hunt” and Toyota hybrids attract customers who prefer a hybrid tourism, a large majority do so in a C-segment model, with products like the new Ford C-MAX Hybrid that will address to be as competitive as the market benchmark, which today remain the Nipponese. The launch of hybrid, first in the U.S. and later in the rest of Europe, will be followed by a plug-in hybrid model – come to America in the autumn – will also have the ability to travel a significant distance in pure electric mode (a few tens of kilometers) and a total range of over 800 kilometers.

The new Ford C-MAX Hybrid will be equipped with an engine 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle four-cylinder, air, electric motor attached to a support for a total of 188 hp. The mechanics are exactly the same as that used in the new Ford Fusion Hybrid American and it could use the Mondeo future hybrid to reach Europe, their consumption are also similar, 47 mpg on the urban cycle and 44 miles per gallon on the highway cycle. Obviously the U.S. approvals can not be extrapolated to ours, but would correspond to approximately 5.0 liters per 100 kilometers (as the European approval number should be less).

The Ford C-MAX Hybrid in turn will have only five-passenger body.

We know that the new Ford C-MAX Hybrid, at least in the U.S., will be slightly more efficient than the Toyota Prius Plus (known in that market as Toyota Prius v) as will cover additional 3 miles per gallon according to the approved cycle. However it should be mentioned once again the differences between the Toyota model for the U.S. and Europe, as in our country the Toyota Prius Plus will ship with lithium ion batteries (more expensive but more effective, lighter and more energy capacity ) unlike the nickel-hydride used in the United States, which until now used the Prius “non-plug”.

According to Ford the price difference between the C-MAX Hybrid and the Prius Plus will be $ 1,300 in your favor, so we understand that leave the $ 25,250, prices that have nothing to do with Europeans.

Anyway, for now it seems that the battle of the hybrids, also in the compact MPV segment, is served in the U.S.. We would still have to know the specifications of the model to hit Europe, but approval should not change consumption, and price.
