Honda will race with the new Mugen CR-Z “Super” GT

Honda has long been hinting his intentions to compete with one of the few models in its catalog that could really have a future and a certain projection in motorsports, Honda CR-Z. To make matters worse, in a time when hybrids are current in the competition, they will do with a model equipped with a Honda hybrid system optimized for the competition and commissioning of Team Mugen.

The Mugen CR-Z sporty GT is partially based competition – basically in aesthetics – the Honda CR-Z and approved to compete in the GT300 class of Super GT Championship Japanese cars. Due to restrictions of approval shall be limited to its power 300 hp and, unlike its street coupe equipped with a 1.5 VTEC four-cylinder, will use a block V6 2.8-liter twin-turbo. The electrical part, as mentioned, will run by a hybrid system developed new invoice for Team Mugen. ¿This will open doors to new CR-Z competition and a race-client model?

The baptism of fire GT Mugen CR-Z will take place in late July at the 300 km race to be held in the circuit Sportsland Sugo (Japan), but remember that this tournament is also disputed outside the Japanese archipelago with a race at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia.

In its class this Honda CR-Z racing will have to deal with models as diverse as the BMW Z4 GT3 and Nissan GT-R, in addition to his compatriot, the Toyota Prius, and machines with as much popularity as the Audi R8 LMS, the Ferrari 458 GT3, Lamborghini Gallardo LP600 + GT3, GT3 Mercedes SLS AMG or the Porsche 911 GT3 R, but remember that they all have to be strictly limited to 300 hp.

We have seen in more than one occasion to the Honda CR-Z poses very aggressive, but never so much as this Mugen CR-Z GT. Anyway, and as you can imagine the resemblance of this sport racing with his counterpart on the street is pure coincidence, since I dare say not to share not only will not share or mechanical or chassis but absolutely none of the panels forms its body has nothing to do with the Honda currently marketed.

Ultimately it seems that approaches a nice duel with the Toyota Prius Super GT, and who can doubt that the future of the competition is in the hybrids?
